In 2005, the Association set up the House of Peace and Reconciliation in the District of Kicukiro (Kigali), a professional training center to offer real support to that part of the female population who find themselves in serious socio-economic difficulties concrete and immediate.
Between 2006 and 2013, thanks to the synergy of action between the Progetto Rwanda association, the Department of Social Policies of the District of Kicukiro, and the local women’s communities, the house of peace organized various professional courses (cooking, sewing, English, business ) to offer the women of that area the possibility of acquiring skills, organizational skills and professional tools such as to guarantee them autonomy and better living conditions. Every year the house of peace has trained around 250 women.
Over the years, in light of the many changes that have taken place in the country, together with our local partners and in line with the recent indications of the Rwandan government on the subject of the fight against poverty, it was decided to update and expand the activities and services offered by the house of peace.
To this end, we have started two new projects: one dedicated to the children of the area who live in very difficult family contexts and the other in favor of their mothers. The Amahoro Nursery School project was born for the children and the Female Entrepreneurship project was for their mothers to train and support them until they complete their path of economic and social autonomy.
The House of Peace and Reconciliation has received two Certificates of Merit for its commitment to the fight against poverty and for the work carried out in favor of lasting peace among the population. The first was awarded by the Rwandan Commission for Unity and Reconciliation, and the second by the District of Kicukiro, the neighborhood in which the Center is located.
